The fragile government coalition was left bruised and battered on Tuesday after the opposition took advantage of its absent lawmakers. It was forced to withdraw agreements over siting of a US radar in the country from the lower chamber fearing it would lose a vote on them. The main opposition party, the Social Democrats, had forced a vote on the radar on Wednesday. The no confidence vote will take place on on March 24. The Social Democrats tabled the vote over the so-called Wolf affair. This centres on attempts by the Prime Minister’s close aid, Marek Dalík, to try and put pressure on Czech Television to drop a item about former Social Democrat deputy Petr Wolf. It focused on allegations he obtained millions of crowns illegally. Mr. Wolf has sided with the fragile governing coalition in key votes.
