| Khamoro Festival in Prague |

A colourful parade, accompanied with Romani world music, will go through the city centre, starting at noon in Můstek and culminating in the Old Town Square. The festival will be held from the 25th to the 30th of May, under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém. The festival is organized by civic association Slovo 21. This year, the festival will number over 110 musicians from sixteen countries. Originally, the festival was only some kind of reminder of classical Romani folk music, but it has gradually changed and since last year, also modern Romani music and gypsy jazz are included in the event. There will be three modern Romani music concerts and three classical Romani music with cimbaloms and accordions. The festival’s programme is very varied. Prague clubs will host the following bands: DelaDap, the legendary formantion The Rosenberg Trio and Basily Boys. Traditional music will be represented by the Italian group Acquaragia Drom, Nadara from Romania and Balkan brass music Šutka from Macedonia, Hungarian cimbalom group Romengo under the leadership of a young violinist Marek Balog, Russian singer Leonsii Erdenko and Danish accordionist Lela Nika. On the last day of the festival, Prague Congress Centre will hold a gala concert with the seven traditional music formations and a guest of honour - violinist Pavel Šporcl with Slovakian Romano Stilo.Accompanying events - documentaries in Aero Cinema, workshops and photographic exhibitions. Also an expert seminar will be held in the House of Ethnic Minorities on the 28th of May entitled Romani Culture as a Part of European Culture, which has been realised among others by the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Prague. During the whole week, international workshops on Romani history, culture and tradition will be held targeted at youth from four European countries. |
