Now in its second year, the Czech Beerfest will open at Letňany exhibition grounds on Friday, 22 May, at 3 PM, and will last until Sunday, 31 May, midnight. During the weekdays, it will only be possible to ‘soak’ after 3 PM. The ten days of the Festival will offer not only virtually all brands of superb Czech beers, but also the wide array of delicious food that compliments beer drinking. Micro-breweries will appear as well…Most importantly, you will be able to taste more than 70 brands of Czech beer, all of them of high quality and served in custom-made glass beer mugs, including beer specially brewed for the Beerfest. One new feature is the participation by twelve local micro-breweries, as is the introduction of the ‘official beer’ of the festival, this year it is the 11 degrees beer from Jihlava’s Ježek brewery. The event is free of charge and has a capacity of 10 000 seats. Service, dressed in Czech national costume, together with 100 chefs and barkeepers will take care of visitors. The festival has its own special currency, the so called beer tolar. Good food …and a small shock - beer ice-cream From 3 PM, the event will feature mainly folk ensembles, and from 6 PM, big orchestras. The expected attendance is up to 100 thousand people. Prague Mayor took patronage of the Festival, and if all goes well, he will pour the first tankard of the event on Friday, 22 May. The organisers revealed that their ambition is to compete with Oktoberfest, which is a show of German beers. Already since the first year of the event, the Lonely Planet guide referred to Beerfest as the Oktoberfest of the future. |
