The story of the first festival of the Hungarian capital dates back to 1958 when Philharmonia organised a ”Bartók Festival” at the beginning of the autumn concert season. The list of participants was quite fascinating: Yehudi Menuhin, Svyatoslav Richter, the Juilliard String Quartet, János Ferencsik, Annie Fischer… Based on the great success, our predecessors devoted
the festive series of concerts next year to the memory of J. Haydn, then in 1960 the 150th anniversary of Ferenc Erkel’s birth provided the occasion. The Budapest Music Weeks soon gained ground in the concert life of Hungary and was the most significant series of musical events for decades. Start of event: 10/09/2009 End of event: 26/10/2009 |
