For the ninth time the Schönbrunn Palace Easter Market from 9 April to 25 April 2011 will be bestowing a delightful spring-like atmosphere on the imperial setting of Schönbrunn, bringing traditional customs and Easter handicrafts from the provinces to the city.
This Easter Market is an insider tip, a treasure trove for people seeking something special, exquisite and creative. There is a large selection of lovingly designed gift ideas: hand-made Easter decorations, hand-painted Easter eggs from quails to ostriches, classical and modern Easter flower arrangements, elaborate wood carvings, table decorations, glassware and ceramics, fragrant soaps and bath additives. Here in Schönbrunn Easter traditions combine with local delicacies to form a colourful Easter composition. The Easter Market is well worth a visit to try out the culinary treats and specialities from Austria including truffle and honey creations, bread, tasty soups, “Gröstel” und “Fleckerl”, fluffy waffles, a chocolate fountain and home-made ice cream, as well as freshly made fruit juice, young wines and tangy fruit punch — altogether an array of delicious and attractive items to enjoy and give as presents. The Jazz at the Easter Market concerts on Sundays, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday will feature jazz and swing ensembles including the popular 5 IN LOVE jazz combo to get visitors into a foot-tapping spring mood. The extensive children’s Easter programme offers games, fun and excitement for young visitors. Marzipan Easter Bunny workshop. The Marzipan Easter Bunny workshop is located in the Easter Market marquee in the Ehrenhof courtyard in front of the palace. Under the guidance of the confectioner from Hofbackstube Schönbrunn at Café Restaurant Residenz young visitors can model marzipan Easter bunnies, dip marzipan eggs in chocolate and then have them packed to take home with them. Puzzle rally — help Roberta the Hen. Roberta has a lot to do to prepare for the Easter celebrations. Although she always helps her friend the Easter Bunny by providing Easter eggs, she’s not so good at painting and hiding them and making Easter nests and easily gets flustered. She really needs the assistance of busy young helpers! Making palm bushes. Children can learn a traditional Easter custom by making palm bushes. Pussy willows, twigs, ribbons and flowerpots are turned with imagination and creativity into spring-like arrangements. The palm bushes are blessed on Palm Sunday in the palace chapel. Imperial Easter nest hunt. On Easter Saturday (23 April 2011) the Ehrenhof will once again be turned into a huge Easter nest offering lots of nice surprises for young visitors to the Easter Market. Poldi’s workshop — Schönbrunn Palace Experience. In the Schönbrunn Palace Experience children’s museum young visitors can make Easter theme gifts and hunt for Easter eggs while visiting the palace. |
