Route: Banska Bystrica - Via ferrata Chimney on Skalka - Geographical centre of Europe - Kremnica - Banska Bystrica

Our first stop we will make at the Via ferrata Chimney on Skalka which is one of the best climbing places in Slovakia. It offers secured climbing routes where you can use a solid steel rope to guide you all the way. Via Ferrata in Skalka offers interesting routes and impressive views of the surrounding countryside. There are six climbing routes on the spot - from the lightest difficulty to the most demanding, thus they can be enjoyed by both beginners and experienced climbers. There is also a short via ferrata on the rock called Jánošík hole, which is designed for parents with children. The transition is enriched with a wealth of information boards with site attractions. You will get an adrenaline rush from the longest suspension bridge in Slovakia, which is part of the ferrata. It leads at a height of about 30 meters above the gorge and is almost 80m long. Next we will visit to a beautiful place near Kremnické Bane, a stone is erected next to an ancient church of John Baptist. It reminds the passers-by that it is exactly here that the geographical centre of Europe is situated. The important geographical point is marked by a small monument next to the defence wall of the church. The monument has the shape of a big oval stone reminding the rugby ball erected upwards. The foundation stone of the Slovak state was also laid here on the occasion of establishment of the Slovak Republic. Next we will visit to Kremnica which was one of the richest towns of the Kingdom of Hungary. The settlement obtained privileges of the free royal and mining borough from King Charles Robert in 1328. Special privilege was that of coinage. The mint of Kremnica was founded by mint masters, invited here from Kutna Hora in Bohemia by the king of the Kingdom of Hungary. A year after its founding in 1329 the first Old Hungarian groschen coins were struck here. The mint of Kremnica also produced the ducats, which were highly praised for their quality and beauty and joined the most favourite coins in Europe. Commemorative coins, medals, and coins of different countries of the world are still struck in Kremnica today. The central area of the town is the Stefanikovo square with its dominant, which is the town castle and the Gothic church of St. Catherine, built in the 15th century. The oldest part of the town in general is the ossuary of St. Andrew from the 13th century. Part of the castle is also the Clock Tower, remains of the former town hall, three bastions and the northern Tower gate. The gem of the Stefanikovo square is the bulky Baroque Trinity Pillar. In the north-western corner of the square is the building of mint. Museum of coins and medals situated in an old burgher house in the southern row of houses offers more information about the craft of coinage and its tradition in Kremnica. Visitors can try to strike mints by their own hands. The eastern row of the square apart from several old burgher houses also contains the building of the new town hall. After free time we return to Banska Bystrica.
