Route: Dijon - Osselle Cave - Dole - Besancon - Dijon

The first stop of our tour will be at Osselle Cave which was discovered at the 13th century. The Osselle Cave was open for visitors since 1504 and is the oldest touristic show caves like Antyparos in Greece, . Several historical figures contributed to the worldwide fame of the Osselle Cave : Gollut, Buckland, who found at Osselle the first complete cave bear skeleton in 1826, which is now exhibited at the British Museum, Silliman.After visit to cave we will drive to next stop of the tour small city Dole with its narrow, winding streets, old houses from the 15 to the 18C, huddling tightly together, doorways with coats of arms, little round, square or hexagonal towers, arcaded interior courtyards, flights of steps, wells, niches and wrought iron banisters, the old town is a pleasant place to stroll where you simply will enjoy the atmosphere. After that we will drive to the last stop on our tour , city Besancon. Cradled in a loop of the river Doubs, at the foot of its towering citadel, the ancient city of Besançon is one of the best preserved historic cities in France. In pre-Roman times, it was the capital of an area known as Sequania. When the area was conquered by the Romans, Julius Caesar described this naturally defensive site as "the jewel in my crown". The centre of Besançon, known as "la Boucle", i.e. the loop of the river, is both a very well preserved historic quarter, with plenty of shops and restaurants. The most visited place of these is the Citadel - a UNESCO World Heritage site - a magnificent example of seventeenth-century military architecture, designed by Vauban. During the visit of the city you will familiar with the Citadel , Besançon's St. Jean cathedral with an altar at both ends, St. Jean's is a fine medieval cathedral which also houses one of the great works of the Florentine Renaissance master Fra Bartolomeo, as well as a great astronomic clock, will see the cathedral is the Porte Noire, a Roman triumphal arch that is the principal vestige today of the Roman city that once stood on the site and much more. After we will return to Dijon.
