Vevey - Montreux - Rochers-de-Naye

The first stop in this tour will be at the old town of Vevey  where is a maze of narrow streets where it is pleasant having a stroll. In this pedestrian aera, fountains and statues, some of which are over a hundred years old, frescoes and colourful signs alternate at every corner, as well as numerous cafes, terraces and boutiques. From the Place de la Gare,  will walk towards the lake to the Grande Place and the Vevey landing stage. Each Tuesday and Saturday morning in summer, the square belongs to the famous Vevey market, with its colourful, perfumed stands offering flowers, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, fish and old objects. On Saturdays in July and August, these markets give way to folklore markets: thanks to a glass of wine - you pay for your first glass only - everyone can sample the various regional wine appellations in the company of their vintners! The atmosphere is assured with fanfares, alphorns and winegrowers in their traditional costumes! Via the Rue du Lac you will come to the picturesque part of Vevey, intimate and pedestrians only: small narrow lanes, unexpected passageways, a host of craftsmen’s workshops, boutiques and bistros. Returning along the lakeside on the Quai Perdonnet you will find the statue of the famous Charlie Chaplin, who lived at Corsier-sur-Vevey for 25 years, from 1953 to his death. He is laid to rest in the cemetery at Corsier with his wife Lady Oona Chaplin. Our next stop will be at Montreux, the Swiss Riviera, which famous for its beautiful flora, due to the benefits of the special micro-climate. We will stroll along the lake shores where the summer Jazz Festival takes place, see the Freddie Mercury statue and the majestic 13th century Chillon Castle, (the most visited monument in the whole of Switzerland and inspiration to numerous poets, novelists and artists over the past 300 years), on our way up to the old town to appreciate stunning views over the lake and pass by the oldest house in Montreux, dating back to the 16th century.  You can relax in gourmet restaurants, stroll along the blue lakeside and discover the most famous attractions of the city.  Next we will go to Rochers-de-Naye. By the cog railway from Montreux to the Rochers-de-Naye you will see one of the most stunning panoramic views in Switzerland, over the mountains of the Alps and Lake Geneva. The cog railway departing from Montreux takes you up the mountain to Rochers-de-Naye at an altitude of 2,042 m. The picturesque 55-minute journey is a pleasure in itself as the little train takes you alongside Lake Geneva and up into the mountains, offering you stunning views as you travel. When you get to your destination, you’ll be stunned by the majestic panoramic view over the Alps, the Riviera and Lake Geneva. Once you’ve had your fill of this unique view in Switzerland, continue your adventure in the “La Rambertia” alpine garden with its collection of 1,000 alpine plants. Then it’s time for Marmots Paradise, a delightful animal park where children adore looking at different species of marmot from all over the world in their burrows. After we will return to Montreux and back to Geneva.
