The rolling hills of Southern Styria – lovingly called the „Styrian Tuscany“ are the perfect grounds for white wines, gaining constantly international recognition. Firstly we will drive to the Castle of Seggau boasts a huge and ancient wine cellar, with more than 300 years of age. Schloss Seggau has a long and proud history. The first settlements on the Seggauberg are thought to have been built by the Celtics between 400 and 200 BC. Today the castle stands at a crossroads; culturally, temporally and aesthetically. You will go through the arched hallways of the castle past the epochs and listen history of life as they explain how Schloss Seggau became a refuge of serenity and reflection. Some of the highlights include the Bell Meddow (Glockenwiese) where an old guard tower houses the 17th century iron cast ‘Seggauer Liesl’ (a grand dame of the church bells in Austria), the Princes chambers and the baroque chapel with its embellished ceilings and golden alters. Here you will get a guided tour through the wine cellar and of course a tasting of these renowned white wines in the Castle Tavern. The tour continues to the little village of Heimschuh, where you will discover how „Styria’s black gold“ – the famous pumpkinseed oil is being produced. After we will visit to a so-called „Buschenschank“ (rustic wine tavern) marks the end of the tour. Here you enjoy a hearty snack called „Brettljause“ and a glass of wine. After we will return to Graz.
