Our first stop in the tour will be at city Hameenlinna, one of the oldest towns in Finland, is home to a medieval castle and boasts a rich military and cultural history. There was a settlement called Vanaja by the lake Vanajavesi where the city now stands since the Viking Age. The castle was built in the late 13th century to secure Swedish power in central Finland. A village was established near Hame Castle to provide services and goods to its inhabitants.The village was granted city rights in 1639 and soon after that the King of Sweden moved it one kilometre (0.6 miles) south to the hill on which it still stands. The city is known for its schools and academies where many famous Finns have studied. Schools, government and the military have characterised Hameenlinna's life throughout history. During the tour you will see and visit the marketplace, Town Hall Square, Hameenlinna church, Hame Castle, The Gingerbread House, see the wooden houses and the home of Jean Sibelius - the greatest Finnish composer, Lake Vanajavesi, Aulanko Forest Park and Aulangon Kavaljeeri. After lanch we will drive to the Artillery Museum of Finland which open its doors for military history enthusiasts, and visitors can also learn a lot about the life of Russian emperors and the ‘Finnish Casanova’ as well as hear Finnish myths and legends. After we will back to Helsinki.
