First stop in our tour will be at Turku which is a large city on the southwest coast of Finland. Turku, as a town, was founded at the end of the 13th century, making it the oldest city in Finland. It quickly became the most important city in Finland, a status it retained for hundreds of years. After Finland became part of the Russian Empire (1809) the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland was moved to Helsinki (1812). Because of its long history, Turku has been the site of many important events and has extensively influenced Finnish history. A tour of the city provides a good overall picture of the main history and sights. The 3-hour tour includes all the main and most important sights in Turku, such as Turku Castle, Cathedral and the Old Town. Highlights of this tour include an insight into the history and architecture of Turku as well as sights such as Central Railway Station, Turku Cathedral, Old Great Square - oldest commercial and administration centre, Turku Market Square, Market Hall, Art Museum, City Hall and the old and new Library. You can also take in the atmosphere of the cozy and lively riverside and admire the local design shops and beautiful parks. After the tour of Turku we will take a short drive to the idyllic summer town of Naantali, where the main attractions include Naantali cathedral and the beautiful marina lined with restaurants and cafes. The terraces overlooking the stunning archipelago are a great place to have lunch or coffee. We will also walk around the old town where you can do some shopping. A visit to the summer residence of the President of Finland is also possible, when tours are available. After we will back to Helsinki.
