Our tour we will start at Piazza San Carlo, a magnificently elegant location aptly nicknamed the ‘lounge’ of Turin. Learn about the Piazza’s history which dates back to 1619 as you admire the intricate architecture of the surrounding buildings. Next, we pass by the Port Palazzo Market on your way to the impressive Porta Palatina, which is one of the best preserved 1st-century BC Roman gateways in the world. Continue the tour to the imposing San Giovanni Battista Cathedral, the main place of Catholic worship in Turin. Located in the square of the same name, the cathedral was built at the end of the 15th century and is the city’s only religious building in the Renaissance style. Arrive at Piazza Castello next, a large esplanade that is the true center of Turin. As you explore, admire the dazzling Palazzo Madama as well as the majestic Palazzo Reale. Next we will reach to Piazza Carignano, one of the most important and historic squares of the Piedmontese capital. Dating back to the Savoy era of the city, the square boasts a fascinating monument to honor Vincenzo Gioberti, whom you will learn about during the tour. The tour will end at one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Mole Antonelliana. Built in 1863 and standing at 167 meters tall, the tower was initially a place of worship for Turin’s Jewish community before being sold to the municipality in 1877. During the tour you will see Palazzo Madama, Royal Palace, St John's Cathedral where the Holy Shroud is kept, Saint Lawrence Church, Palatine Roman Gate, Saint Charles Square and Mole Antonelliana. After city tour we will visit one of the main highlight of Turin: the Royal Palace. The palace is adorned by gold, gems and luxury that reflects perfectly the wealth of the royal family of the time. Today the palace is part of the UNESCO World Heritage for its magnificent beauty and perfect representation of the Baroque era. The Royal Palace has been built in the XVII century and it was home of Savoy’s family, first as Kings of Sardinia and Piedmont and then, as Kings of Italy from 1861 up to 1946 when Italy became a Republic. Take a leap into the past and walk room-by-room listening histories of Kings and Queens, Writes and Thinkers. Admire the furniture and the finest decorations and frescoes. Take the chance to see the Royal Armory, one of the richest collections of arms and armors in the world. It is exibhited in the Royal Gallery, frescoed by Daniel Seiter, it rivaled the Versailles Hall of mirrors. Go up to the second floor from the Scala delle Forbici ( Scale of Scissors) built by Juvarra, a great architect of Rococo age. A true masterpiece for architecture! Walk through the Royal Gardens and admire the “Fontana dei Tritoni. The gardens have been projected by Andre Le Notre, which worked also for the Palace of Versailles.
