Route: Nice - Biot - Grasse - Lac de Sainte Croix - Verdon Gorge - Nice
Duration: 10 h
The first stop of our tour will be at a lovely picturesque old town located up in the hills of Antibes - Biot. This Medieval  town is full of culture, history and art. Founded by Celts, invaded by Romans, taken over by pirates, ruled by medieval knights and sacked by the black plague: the old town of Biot has a rich history spanning over 2000 years. Today, Biot is a charming town famous for its glassblowing, ceramics and pottery, as well as its shady cafes, jumble of medieval buildings and pretty hilltop views across the French Riviera. The village has the feel of an artist's colony, with lots of open workshops where you can go in and watch artists create their pieces. or just stroll through cobbled streets framed by stone archways and glimpses of the sea. Biot has so much to explore from the museums and galleries to the shops and workshops, you can spend day discovering and enjoying all that it has to offer. One of the many extravagant things France is known for is its perfume and the next stop of our tour will be at Grasse which is the perfume capital.  Here are three “parfumeries” in Grasse - Fragonard, Molinard, and the oldest one, Galimard, which dates back to 1747. You don’t have to be interested in perfume to check these places out;  visitors can enjoy learning about how perfume is made and spend time smelling all the different blends. Here free guided tours and gift shops and Fragonard is a popular site to visit because of its attached museum with a lot of perfume history. At Molinard, you can also learn how to make your own simple perfume. Up or down, the stone streets and colorful buildings of Grasse are interesting place for discovery and do not miss to explore the Cathedrale Notre Dame du Puy - a gorgeous cathedral that also houses a few paintings by Ruben and one by Fragonard. The last place of our tour will be the deepest gorge in France, les Gorges du Verdon, is one of the must-see natural wonders of central Provence. While there is no road up the gorge, there is a breathtaking circular "corniche" route around the rim of the gorge, and plenty of opportunities for boat and kayak hire on the lower end of the gorge. The Gorges du Verdon attract visitors for five main reasons.  There are those who come for the spectacular road trip round the edge of the gorge, by car or by bike; there are those who come to enjoy some of the exhilarating hiking trails in and around the gorge. Then there are some who come to admire the bird life - vultures, eagles and other birds of prey. Finally, there are those who come to enjoy the experience of paddling up the bottom end of the gorge in a canoe or a kayak or a pedal boat . Kayaking or boating into the lower part of the gorge is a popular activity, and kayaks and other types of craft can be hired at the top end of the Lac de Sainte Croix. For rafting on the Verdon, it is best to go further up the valley, to the small town of Castellane. After free time we will return to Nice.
