Route: Paris - Provins - Château Vaux le Vicomte - Chateau de Fontainebleau - Paris
Duration: 10 h
The first stop of our tour will be at Medieval City of Provins, where charming timber-framed houses are surrounded by the remains of medieval walls. A vibe of stepping back in time fills the air, and the place isn’t overrun with tourists as is so common with pretty French towns near Paris. Provins is filled with mysteries, oodles of history and picture-perfect scenes straight off a vintage postcard. Chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage , Provins is one of the most well preserved medieval villages in France. In the former capital of the Counts of Champagne and center of trade in the 12th and 13th centuries you will return to the Middle Ages. While taking an educational look at the French history and the origins of gourmet culture, enjoy food and wine tastings while strolling along the medieval streets of Provins. You can discover local specialities, such as Hypocras, a medieval spiced wine or the Rose de Provins well known for its medicinal properties and employed by local gourmet food makers today. The next stop of our tour will be at Fontainebleau to visit two castles once home to members of France’s extravagant aristocracy. First, explore Château Vaux le Vicomte, said to have inspired the Palace of Versailles. Then head to Château de Fontainebleau, a UNESCO World Heritage site whose history dates back to the 12th century. You’ll have free time at each castle to look around on your own via provided audio guides, checking out the ornate architecture and opulent gardens. Discover the opulence of Vaux le Vicomte Castle, admiring the extravagant interiors that put its creator in prison. After free time we will return to Paris.
