Our first stop will be at the Siofok, which was already inhabited in the time of the Roman Empire. The Roman conquest came there in the 1st century AD. The town lay on the route leading from Sopianae (today Pécs) through Tricciana (today Ságvár) to Arrabona (today Győr). According to recordings of Sextus Aurelius Victor from the 3rd to 4th century AD, Emperor Galerius built a sluice in 292 AD to drain the Lacus Pelso (the Latin name of Lake Balaton) in the area of Siófok and cleared forests. Now Siófok is the summer capital, and the busiest tourist centre in Hungary. Its resort and villa area was built at the end of the 19th century as the greatest tourism undertaking of the time. The world famous composer of operetta, Imre Kálmán, is a son of Siófok, where there is today a museum in memory of him. In the spirit of the cult of Kálmán, for two months each summer an operetta gala evening is held each week. In the Catholic parish church organ recitals and master classes are held. With its huge discos, Siófok is a place of “pilgrimage” for young people. Their overriding favourite is the Beach House, built on the Nagystrand (“Main Beach”) a couple of years ago, with sports during the day and rock concerts in the evening. After the familiar with the city we will go to the dock of the Balaton lake where we will go to one hour cruise. Our cruise on the Balaton lake we will make at the famous Talizman yacht, which is the largest sailing ships on Lake Balaton. The comfortable and unique cruising ships are providing a beautiful tour on Lake Balaton, from dock of Siófok port. Through the one hour long tour you can enjoy the sight, take over the ship’s wheel, and order a cold drink. After you will take a free time and next we continue our tour. Our next stop will be at the Kaposvár which in the 11th century it was one of the richest abbeys in Hungary. According to ancient legend, Kaposvár was founded, like Rome, on seven hills. It was inhabited as early as the 5th millennium BC, around 500 BC the Celts moved here. The city in today's sense of the word is first documented here from 1009, from the early times of Christian Hungary. Its centre is formed by Kossuth tér square, which is a widened extension of the pedestrian street Fő utca. On the square stands a huge statue of Kossuth. Next to the Baroque church of the 18th century stands a beautiful column of the Virgin that belonged to the Festetics family. The neo-Romanesque-Neo-Gothic Church of the Blessed Virgin Man was declared a cathedral in 1993 in connection with the promotion of the city to a bishop's residence. The former county house is one of the most beautiful classicist public buildings in the Transdanubia. After short stop we will return to Pecs.
