During our tour you will see the most important sightseeing: Ashkenazi Synagogue, At-Mejdan, Latin Bridge, Vijećnica, Baščaršija, Jewish Quarter and Sephardic Synagogue, Jewish Museum of BiH, Bosnian Cultural Center, Jewish Cemetery. Learn how Sarajevans came to accept their new neighbors, Sephardic Jews, in the 16th century and what life was like in Sijavuš Pasha’s Mahala (Jewish Quarter). The tour will provide answers to questions about how Sarajevo’s Jews made their living, what kinds of songs they sang, the culinary specialties they prepared, as well as a bit about the Ladino language. You’ll also hear stories about Sarajevo’s Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish communities – their lives, joys, suffering, persecution, their eternal resting places and even the places where they defied death and this earthly transience.
