Our first stop in this tour we will make in Kampen. Discover and experience the rich history of Kampen during our visit . Our guides are happy to walk you through the historic churches, the cigar factory, the Koggewerf (cog shipyard) and to tell you all about the city while climbing and touring the Nieuwe Toren (New Tower). During our tour you will see the Bovenkerk church, the Buitenkerk church, the Koggewerf, Cigar factory De Olifant, the Nieuwe Toren or Dairy Farm Erf-1. Next in Kampen we will Making buttermilk and butter. Buttermilk butter is a natural butter made from fresh dairy products. During the workshop you churn your own butter and we tell you everything about the preparation. In the fermented dairy workshop we will work on making buttermilk and butter. In the meantime, we also tell you how you can make your own yogurt or kefir! We provide a guided tour during the cooling of the buttermilk. Of course there is also time for a cup of coffee / tea and a snack and you will taste the butter on the spot and take home your own buttermilk!Our next stop will be at Vollenhove, which also prospered in the 17th century, shipping peat to Holland. A large portion of Vollenhove is a Dutch protected cityscape and there’s a host of historic buildings, among them two historic late-Gothic churches, the Grote of Sint Niklaaskerk, and the Kleine of Lieve Vrouwekerk, which stands out for its tower crowned with a lantern. Many of Vollenhove’s 50 or so national monuments sit on Bisschopstraat, Kerkstraat and the sociable Kerkplein. From a cafe table on this square you can feast your eyes on the Grote Kerk, as well as the17th-century former town hall (now a restaurant) and the Latin school (now an antiques shop), both with very decorative facades and stepped gables. Our next stop will be at Giethoorn, a typically Dutch village in Overijssel, you can perfectly see how the Dutch love to live with and on the water. In an environment full of lakes, reed beds and forests lies this picturesque village with its many handsome farms with thatched roofs and characteristic wooden bridges. Giethoorn was established as a settlement of peat harvesters. Peat cutting created ponds and lakes, and people built houses on the islands between them. As a result, access was only possible by bridge or using traditional Giethoorn boats, so-called punters – narrow boats pushed along using a long pole by a punteraar. Fortunately, little has changed in Giethoorn. The tall wooden bridges are still there, and you can still travel the waters on a punter, as well as on an electric boat or a tour boat. Next we will go to1-hour canal cruise, where you sail under the guidance of a skipper / guide through the historic center of Giethoorn and over the lake `t Bovenwiede. After boat trip you have some free time to walk the narrow paths along the canals and simply soak up the easy-going atmosphere of the village. After free time we will return to Groningen.
